Chelsea have outstripped Manchester United and Liverpool in Champions League earnings in recent years, it has been revealed.
According to a study produced by Italian sports business consultancy StageUp, Chelsea have earned more than any club in Europe from the competition between 2005 and 2008. The club has earned around 184m euros of the 3bn euros that UEFA has distributed to 70 clubs.
Manchester United and Arsenal follow Chelsea as the second and third biggest earners from the competition, while Liverpool, who have received 131m euros, are fifth. The fourth-placed club, the only one to split the English sides, is Lyon, boosted by being the only consistent French performers in the league.
